Ulster Automobile Club

2018 will be another busy year for the Club who have been providing competitors and spectators with a range of varied high quality motorsport events for over 90 years.

Rallying has been at the heart of our club since its inception and the members were saddened by the recent death of our President, Robin McKinney, who introduced Special Stage rallying to Ireland. His legacy is reflected in 2018 through two great stage rallies, The New Year Stages at Kirkistown and a new event, the Easter Stages, in County Antrim just after the Easter weekend. Add to this two navigation rallies and a Targa event just after Christmas folks have plenty of opportunities and experiences across a range of levels to have fun, enjoy the craic whilst being competitive.

Two Hill Climbs; Craigantlet and Knockagh supported by the Ballyrobert Group and Cannon Hyundai respectively, two Autotests and a Sprint in October comprise our Speed programme this year. In 2017 The MSA and ANICC recognised the contribution made to Motorsport by the Club and specifically in this discipline by awarding Wilson Carson, Volunteer of the Year in the Steward / Clerk of the Course category. Wilson has been an understudy to a number of Clerks of the Course and learned a lot from the late Bob Cairns who was instrumental in ensuring the success of Craigantlet Hill Climb in recent years, he will be sadly missed. Bill Johnston was also one of Wilson's mentors and again members were saddened by his recent passing; he had been awarded an ANICC Lifetime Achievement Award in 2017. The Donaghadee Festival hosts the August Autotest and thanks go to Fergusons Joinery for their continued support of our April event. The October Sprint at Kirkistown is very well supported and has provided a 'nail biting' finish to the classes with the ANICC Championship.

Why not come and join us in 2018 and test your driving, navigating or marshalling skills on one of our events?

The Club have a membership approaching 400 strong but are always keen to recruit new members and competitors into the sport and we manage to fit in several well supported social events throughout the year. We raise funds for charity, through our quiz nights, treasure hunts and 'Sunday Driver' days for members. We also provide training and guidance for new marshals and encourage all our members to become accredited marshals to help with events throughout the year, providing pleasurable experiences which are beneficial to others and contribute to the continual development and progression of motorsport in Northern Ireland.
